'face value' used for bank notes, traveller's cheques.
When dealing with securities, only two options are to be considered:
'par value', if dealing with "obligation"; and
'nominal value' in reference to "actions".
I think the choice of terms is quite obvious and comments thereof.

Actually, the uses that you have mentioned are the most common ones but Jenny's version is also correct.

According to Termium, Valeur Nominale is translated as face value, par value, nominal value, face amount in both Finance and Stock exchange texts.

The other translations are notional, notional amount and these terms are used only in stock exchage related texts.

So when she translated it as Face Value, she has actually avoided
