Hello,

I was wondering if there are any specialized translation tools/dictionaries on the Net dealing with local and national expressions (not necesarily slang) from the USA, England, or from anglo-saxon countries.
For example, recently I had to do an investment report translation (into French) with the following US expression : "to bite the bullet"...

Dear Alexandre,

Here's one I had bookmarked. I've never used it, but give it a try.

Did you find your "bite the bullet"? It means that you are going to go ahead and do something difficult or unpleasant that you've been avoiding. For example: "I'm going to bite the bullet, and stop smoking."

Good luck.

By the way, "bite the bullet" isn't just an American idiom. The first recorded use was by Rudyard Kipling.

More precision about my request... May 25, 2008

Hello,

Thank you for the links, they are all great. What I still didn't find is a web site showing the French equivalent (if any) of a precise English expression/idiom and the other way around maybe
An english expression might not have its French counterpart, but I'm still asking.
It could save valuable time when translating....
