Just wondering if some of you might help me.
I'm searching for a CAT tool compatible with OpenOffice, either stand-alone or not, having the same MT possibilities than with Wordfast or Metatexis (MT extraction from MT Google or Babelfish).

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Swordfish supports all OpenOffice document formats and provides access to Google's Machine Translation engine with its GTranslate plugin.

Regards,
Rodolfo

Anaphraseus Nov 8, 2008

I did not yet try it, though.

Let us know how it works eventually or whether you found other solutions!

Good luck

I did not understand what you mean by MT. I have never used this function, although I normally work with Wordfast. Machine translation? What is it good for? Frankly, I think mine is quite better than any machine translation could be:-)

MT will never be as good as human translation but... Nov 8, 2008

Sometimes it gets at least 80% of accurateness
Wordfast provides this feature, and I like very much to use in non-technical texts.

Theoretically, Anaphraseus + Promt Nov 9, 2008

could provide such a combination. I haven't tried it though.

OmegaT & OmegaT+ Nov 10, 2008

OmegaT [0] works with Openoffice.org.

So will OmegaT+ [1] soon.

compatible TM and MT software Nov 11, 2008

You might want to consider MT tools that have compability with TM tools, both natively and via TMX and other exchange formats.

See PROMT:
http://shop.promt.com/store/promt/ContentTheme/pbPage.english_compareProducts

See Systran:
http://www.systran.co.uk/translation/translation-products/desktop

See Alchemy Publisher which has a built-in MT feature, however OpenOffice formats not natively supported per the feature info.
http://www.alchemysoftware.ie/products/publisher.html

The first two would have customization features that you will not find in an TM tool that simply links to an online MT portal.
