Hi Drew,
we already have the teaser ad on Proz all the time. So why going to youtube and seeing it again.
The future is that we are all replaced by lttle blue men. They are much faster and smarter.

Be aware of the little blue man
That's what they say on TW user group:
But some infos are public now (e.g. this weekend, the Trados beta was
presented on the Proz conference in Wroclaw, Poland), so I can share
some very basic points.
- an unified GUI (no more separate programs like TE/Workbench etc.,

Be aware of the little blue man
That's what they say on TW user group:
But some infos are public now (e.g. this weekend, the Trados beta was
presented on the Proz conference in Wroclaw, Poland), so I can share
some very basic points.
- an unified GUI (no more separate programs like TE/Workbench etc.,
except Multiterm but the Multiterm integration is better now), so, a
huge screen is a must (IMHO the work on a standard cheapo notebooks
with 1280x800 screen may be hard...)
- no Word interface, it's definitively dropped (it's a common trend in
the modern CAT tools).
- an SDLX like grid (no more target text below source text)
- the placeables and term hits in the source sentence are presented
like in Workbench (blue and red lines), the upper case words work now
as placeables (a very good point).
- a powerful AutoSuggest function (the target text is completed like
in cell phones using the autotext, terms and subsegment lists generated
from a (rather huge) TMs)
- as always, the terminology integration is rather bad (this time, no
direct shortcuts kinda the traditional Alt+arrows, probably they
decided the terms should be inserted using Autosuggest but sometimes
it's not very ergonomic)
- a counterintuitive configuration and project management (the Synergy
heritage...), very "corporate" but probably too complex for a freelance
translator, luckily, after some hours, you start to feel it.
- the TTX are dropped (i.e. you can still open TTX files created in
previous versions but the new projects use a new format "presumed to
be XLIFF" and are no longer compatible with the previous Trados
versions).
And an unbelievable good point.
The f!@#$ Multiterm seems to install correctly on fully patched
machines and you have no longer these stupid problems related to the
user rights...
The bad point is the old Multiterm/Workbench stop to work (at least on
some machines), so if you want to maintain the full backward
compatibility (customers etc.), probably you should buy a new PC.
In one word, it's a revolution.

I really cannot understand why SDL does not develop a new terminology tool. I will buy this new version only if SDL abandons MultiTerm.

From the list of new features, it seems they tried to do the right thing - make another Deja Vu... but still fell short. Oh, well, maybe some day
XLIFF is definitely good news - clients' insistence on Trados will be even more difficult to justify...
That means, in turn, that SDL wants to compete on the merits of its software alone, which is even better news! Interesting times, indeed...
