Web tool Jul 1, 2009

Hi Romina,
I don't know about a particular En-Sp dict. on labor legislation but my most effective on-line tool is http://www.wordreference.com/es/translation. It gives you complete definition of the word, sinonims, conj, translation, context, etc. + forum which is quite reliable.
Regards,

The Alcaraz Varó perhaps? Jul 1, 2009

I don't have the dictionary in front of me right now, but there is a business/economy/commerce dictionary, the Alcaraz Varó which, in its current edition contains a ton of good explanations about all things business. Very probably labour too.

Maybe you want to put it to a test: feel free to Proz-email me a list of a few terms you would check if you had to choose a dictionary at a bookshop and when I get to the office in the morning I will tell you whether they appear in the dictionary and their translations.

The actual book is called "Diccionario de terminos economicos, financieros y comerciales. Ingles-español y español-ingles", by Alcaraz Varó. If you finally decide to order it, be careful as most e-shops only show the 2004 edition in their websites whereas there is a very recent edition, from 2008 I think. I have both an old one from 1996 and the recent one and the latter is better and bigger.

OK, but... Jul 1, 2009

I agree that it is a starting point, but it is far too general for these purposes and I would only use as an initial orientation. A specialised dictionary is something well worth paying for in my opinion.

Dear Tomás,

I really appreciate your answer, and I do use Alcaraz Varó´s dictionaries a lot. In fact, the one that you mentioned was one of my first acquisitions. And yes, it is true that it has plenty of labor related terms, but I was hoping to get my hands on one that specializes in that area.

Thank you,

Romina

EMIRE Jul 2, 2009

I've found the EMIRE database helpful for translations relating to HR in Spain.
