I'd be really interested in using online backup. In the summer I migrate between our caravan (where we have a desktop with internet connection) and home. It's quite difficult to manage and online backup would be great.
However, if I put all my data files on the internet how can I be sure they won't be "got at"? Maybe not corrupted, but simply available for inspection by techies/hackers. I don't think I (or my clients!) would like that.

First, thanks for sharing the info. It's amazingly easy to use and the idea that it updates files in real time is astonishing.
However, after uploading my documents, I tried to access one of them. It downloaded, and it says "Opening when complete," but this is a very small file. It has clearly frozen.
Can you tell me if I've down something wrong?
Thanks again! | | | |

must have just been a glitch!
One other question: The free trial for 3 GB lasts for how long? It's not clear to me if this is just a free trial or if anyone can have 3GB for as long as they want.

When I use file-sharing sites, I always encrypt the files and tell the client the password to open. Just use a strong password (6+ characters, including figures and letter in both cases).

It seems the right solution for you, good luck with the migration
I found this info regarding security:

They all do the same: encrypt data before leaving your PC, that is on average much more secure than exchanging files though standard email.

I have used a free online backup system for a while, but it would get somewhat in the way each time bandwith would be a critical factor, eg receiving large files through FTP, working with online TMs etc, or when for some reason my ADSL would have the slightest performance flaw.
Considering the prices of external USB devices, I ended up by buying one of those and installing an automatic backup on it.

Just make sure you take the backup offsite!
A friend of mine recently had the misfortune of a fire at his workplace. Fortunately for him, just one week before he had started performing daily offsite backups. As a result, he was only out of action for two days.

Dropbox
I found till now nothing compares to this application.
Almost instantly synchronization between my PC and Mac. And also with the shared folders in others computers.
Very fast and reliable.

with Dropbox you can receive, for example, big jobs from your clients at any time direct into your iPhone (if they use Dropbox). Or if you forgot to send a job and you are "on the road", you can still send it with your iPhone (I think android too, not sure).
All my TMs are also there so I can work in my Mac and if for some reason I need my Mac for other thing, I can continue the translation in my PC without delay.
If I delete a file, no problem, dropbox maintain a hystory of this file for 30 days, any change in this period can be rescue:
________________
Dropbox lets you go back in time to undelete or undo changes to files.
Every time you save a file in Dropbox, Dropbox syncs it to our secure servers. Dropbox keeps a history of every change made so that you can undo any mistakes and even undelete files. By default, we keep the last 30 days of undo history for all your files.
