Have you ever been filling out a form on a translation agency website at 1:00 a.m. and came to a field that says "Enter 240 words or less" or "Enter 40 characters or less" or similar? You type your information, and through bloodshot eyes, carefully count each word or character in your text, complete the rest of the form, confident you've stayed within the stated limit, and hit "Submit" only to be told, "Your CV is too long", etc. With Text Tally, all you have to do is have it running (optionally in your system tray), copy any text to the clipboard, and it is automatically inserted into the program and the number of lines, words, and characters in the text is tallied and displayed for you.

Thank you, Nikita Jan 13, 2004

The site you gave a link to is full of interesting gauges. Just awesome!

The only thing - it looks like Tally does not work with Win XP (as XP is not mentioned on the list of compatible programs).

Thank you

That's interesting, because the screen shot above is obviously from Win XP.
Will try it and get back.

P.S. Works perfectly (Win XP Polish version, P IV proc, 256 MB RAM)

P.P.S. Scroll down to the bottom of the download page. Apparently all their programs need the VB6 runtime library which does not install with Windows. You need to install it separately.

Yes, your guess is right: I've made that screen shot myself on my Win XP Pro.

I don't think we need to install anything else apart from the app itself. I've just installed Tally and it counts like the general accountant of the Treasury Department.

Visual Basic Runtime Library Jan 13, 2004

To tell you the truth, if I had to explain what it is...

I just know that it's a Microsoft component required by some applications to run in Windows (presumably those written in the Visual Basic programming language).
I installed it some time ago because I needed it for something else.

Cheers,
