Can anyone recommend good and comprehensive medical dictionaries on CD? I have been told about the one by Fritz Nöhring. Before I go on to purchase one, I would want your opinions. I would also be grateful if I am told about some good dicts on CHEMIE! Wenske is quite expensive so I just thought of the dictionary on CHEMIE produced by the Technical University in Dresden. Can anyone advise if this is a good one?? [Edited at 2004-01-23 00:16]

Michael, I am looking for CDs which are installable on the HDD and not for online dictionaries. Besides some of those you suggested are in English (monolingual) while I am looking for GER-ENG-GER bilingual dictionaries! THanks anyway! LaRoche Online or Virtual CD; Roempp Chemical Dictionary | Jan 23, 2004 |
[quote]Robschmidt wrote: JOhanna, I already have a Roche lexicon but this CD has to be in the Laufwerk during usage and gets spoilt rather early. Merely 7 months after having bought it, its begun to show errors! Hence I would want a comprehensive dictionary that could be copied completely on the hard disk! Hi Rob, I also have Pschyrembel. It wasn't terribly expensive and is O.K. too, although I wouldn't necessarily say that it is better than LaRoche online. Roempp is another chemical dictionary that springs to mind, although I don't know how good it is. Although Wenske may be expensive, it is very good. I have two suggestions for you regarding LaRoche. I realise you are not necessarily looking for online dictionaries, but you may nonetheless be interested to know that a very good LaRoche dictionary is also available online: http://www.gesundheit.de/roche/ My second suggestion: Why not try using Virtual CD. In case you haven't heard of it, it is a program that enables you to create an image of any CD and install it on onto a "virtual CD drive", so that the computer is tricked into thinking the CD is in the drive when it isn't - I do this with a lot of my dictionaries and it's very useful, as I also find having to insert CDs a bit of a pain! http://www.virtualcd-online.com/vcd/apps/download/download.cfm?lg=1 Hope this helps.
