School Performance Does NOT Predict Success in Life Either Mar 30, 2002

Thank you for bringing attention to this article. \'Evaluation\' by school authorities should always be taken with several grains of salt.

I once mentored a 7-year-old girl with a rare genetic disorder. She could not handle symbols. Otherwise, she was by no means disabled or slow. School authorities have a very unhealthy attitude problem: They will insist that the student must adapt, no matter what!

It made me wonder who\'s learning-disabled.

I am glad to see things change.

Misconceptions on learning Mar 30, 2002

Probably, the idea that a poor speaker can not learn a new language is part of a series of myths that people (especially we teachers) do have to “unlearn”. There are quite a few more, including those related to time spent on learning, and others such as the ability that girls have over boys, \"mother tongue and pronunciation\", and so on and so forth.

However, there are a lot more misconceptions that we have to face day in, day out, which have to do with the “probability” of learning. But that is another topic…

I agree with Ursula, thanks Werner to bring this issue in!
