DTP software
Mar 16, 2005
Hi Julie,
Is it the same than Adobe Acrobat ?
No. InDesign is a desktop publishing (DTP) package. See the Adobe website for details.
Do you know if it is possible to download it ?
Yes - around 400MB, and selling at USD 700 (full version).
Is it a complicated design software to use ?
I have no experience with InDesign, but as any DTP package, it's bound to be rather complex, given the task.
HTH, Ralf

It is akin to Quark

I own InDesign, so I can fill in some details where Ralf left off. This is industrial-strength desktop publishing software, and yes, it is complicated. If you know how to work Quark Xpress already, then it is no problem. In fact, it will seem relatively easy, since I find it to have less bells and whistles than Quark does.
Is the underlying question here: should I bid on a job that requires InDesign if I don't own it and don't know how to use it? The answer is no, there is a fairly steep learning curve, and it's expensive.
Good luck!

InDesign software review

There has been a software review of it, but it is unfortunately only available in hardcopy print by ordering the back-issue paper copy of that magazine issue:

It's the designated successor to PageMaker. In fact, it's quite good, without many of the flaws that PM has. Which does of course not necessarily mean it's easy to use...
