Hi Bertha,

I tried out the search mechanism on the site, and all the links. They either take you to pages with several pop-up advertisements, or do a web search.

Unfortunately, the Oxford Online Dictionary is a paid subscription service. I guess this page was meant to lure in people hoping to get this service for free.

I appreciate your efforts to provide helpful resources - I am sure you had good intentions in providing this link.

Russell

The OED online is free to members of the Book of the Month Club and other book clubs... it might be worthwhile to become a member just for the dictionary.

Their subscription fee seems to be extremely high ($550 annually). Did you subscribe to the service at this price? I have The Compact Oxford Dictionary of English. I bought it about ten years ago when it first came out for about $245.00 (sale price). They may have added some new words to the online version since then. Does that justify the $550 annual subscription fee?

If you are a subscriber of the Book of the Month Club, you get absolutely free access to the OED on line, and also, great books at great prices. I definetely recommend it. Unfortunately, it\'s just for U.S residents.

However you do have to buy books to be a member.

The link is www.bomc.com or www.booksonline.com
