Hello all,
I am currently working on a book translation. The original text contains some quotes, some of which were originally written by english-speaking persons (i.e. Cyril Northcote Parkinson, Thomas Alva Edison, R. M. Sainsbury, Jack Welch, and others).

They seem to be "odd" quotes, meaning when I enter certain key words in Google, I get no useful hits (i.e. "Wenn Sie den Menschen Verantwortung geben, dann wachsen sie ueber sich hinaus. Aus Jungen werden Maenner, und aus einigen Maennern werden Manager - C.N. Parkinson)

I have found some websites, but couldn't match up my quotes.

Does anybody have any ideas of where to search? Do you recommend just "re-translating" it?

Thanks for all your help!
Heike

Have you asked the author? Feb 20, 2006

No easy task I presume! Is the author still among us? You could try to find compilings of popular citations in English.
Regards
Heinrich

I sympathise Heike, you can waste a lot of time chasing the original quotes. As Heinrich suggests there are specialised sites - try googling. I found the following on my Favourites, though it is so long since I used them that I can't remember how user-friendly they were:

Good luck!
