Hi, all

I was just wondering if you knew some good sites where I could find translation bloopers.

Thanks.

There oughta be but... Aug 30, 2002

...the Financial Times reported a Brussels interpreter rendering \"fresh frozen semen\" as \"matelots congeles\".

And when I was at Reuters, the official finance ministry translator quoted the minister as saying there was room for a \"revaluation\" of the French France (there was one thenh) when the original French word was \"reappreciation\" -- which in French means adjustment a bit up OR down, but the poor colleague translated, uh, letter for letter. When the franc\'s value started swelling on the forex markets, somebody had a second look at the translation, a correction was issued, and the franc got back down towards where it should have been: edging lower: \"reappreciation\" was in fact a euphemism for \"another mini-devaluation\".
