Hi,

I specialise in FR>EN financial translations, mainly in the area of banking. Some of the translations I'm asked to look at include some quite specialised stock market terminology of the kind used by analysts or fund managers when talking about investment forecasts.

Does anyone know of any FR>EN glossaries or other resources that could help me in this area?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Merci, mais... Dec 6, 2006

Merci Albert, mais j'ai déjà regardé ce glossaire - il est très utile pour le vocabulaire purement bancaire mais je cherche quelque chose de plus spécialisé dans le domaine des prévisions boursières que font les analystes (des exemples étant des termes comme "canal ascendant/descendant", "support majeur", "position de stop" etc.).

Stock market terms Dec 6, 2006

Hi there Rob,

Have you already got Christopher Freeland's dictionary of financial and stock market terminology? I have found it quite helpful although it does not contain the exact terms you give as examples.

There is also the Lexique de la Bourse et des Marchés Financiers published by Soficom which is sometimes helpful.

An older book but also sometimes helpful is the Dictionnaire des Termes de Marchés by M.E.M. Boudemagh. One good thing here is that there are explanations of the English terms - as the French terms you quote, for example, may well be derived from the English terms.

HTH

Try Robert Collins Business FR<>EN and Termium Dec 6, 2006

Hi-

I found the following in my Robert Collins "Business", one of my bibles (ISBN: 2850366382)

canal ascendant/descendant => bull/bear trend

Have you tried Termium?

Robert & Collins Dec 8, 2006

The terms are not in my "Robert & Colins du Management". Is this the one you are referring to? Maybe you have a new edition?

I'd be grateful if you'd let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Mary

Maybe I need a new dico Dec 9, 2006

Thanks, all, for your comments.

I haven't been able to solve this problem directly by finding a suitable glossary. But I have found another way of partly solving - I spent half an hour reading some English tutorials on how to analyse stock market trends, and it was quite easy from this to work out a lot of the terminology.

This does, however, highlight the fact that I probably need to get a better dictionary of business terms, and especially finance - the only one I have is the "Peter Collin Business French Dictionary", which is OK as far as it goes, but not very comprehensive.

Would be grateful for any recommendations - either for a paper dico or an electronic one.

Thanks,

Rob
