I came across the following site by chance while researching terminology:
http://www.utexas.edu/law/academics/centers/transnational/work_new/
It contains translations of a number of statutes and decisions from France, Germany, Austria and Israel, and some related material. I would be curious to know how people who do legal translation in the relevant pairs rate these versions.

No Spanish content Oct 28, 2007

It's a pity they don't have anything in Spanish, it looks like a useful resource.

It looks very useful, certainly to be included in my favourites even if I "do" Dutch law.

The committee certainly looks impressive, e.g. in the case of French law:
French Legal Materials — Committee of High Patronage
M. Pierre Mazeaud
President of the Conseil Constitutionnel
The Rt. Hon. the Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers
Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales
M. Renaud Denoix de Saint Marc
Vice President of the Conseil d’ Etat
The Rt. Hon. the Lord Bingham of Cornhill
Senior Law Lord
M. Guy Canivet
First President of the Cour de Cassation
The Rt. Hon. the Lord Woolf of Barnes
Former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales
Chairman of the Institute of Transnational Law
Professor Sir Basil Markesinis QC
Director in Charge of the Website
Dr. Jörg Fedtke
Visiting Professor, The University of Texas School of Law
Academic Advisers / Comité scientifique
This French section of the Institute for Transnational Law website is under the direction of a Comité Scientifique. M. l’ Ambassadeur Alain Plantey, Membre de l’ Institut de France, is President d’ Honneur of the public law part. Professor François Terré, Membre de l’Institut de France, is President d’Honneur for the private law part. Justice Olivier Dutheit de Lamothe of the Conseil consitutionnel is President d’Honneur of the section on that court. Professor Sir Basil Markesinis QC, M. le Conseiller Alain Lacabarats, Directeur du Service de documentation et d’études de la Cour de cassation and M. le Conseiller Dominique Hascher are Members.

Thank you, Tim. I found it very useful, both for confirming terms and for translating others I might need in future.
Does anyone know if there's a Spanish equivalent anywhere?
Regards,
Jenny.

Useful resources for legal translators into Spanish/Catalan Oct 29, 2007

Hi!

You can find useful resources: glossaries, corpora, bibliography and so on related to legal and economic texts in the following Web page:

Spanish access: http://www.gitrad.uji.es/es/recursos/index.htm
Catalan access: http://www.gitrad.uji.es/cat/recursos/index.htm

There are resources for the following languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Catalan.

These resources are provided by Universitat Jaume I (Faculty of Translation).

Kind regards,

David

Site was originally in UK Nov 4, 2007

Tim, as far as the German is concerned the texts are excellent, although some are not 100% native English.

The site very recently moved from the Institute of Global Law at University College London.
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/laws/global_law/

It is therefore not a new resource, but maybe if some money is pumped in it will expand.

Regards
Margaret
