When I press the print screen button, where does the image go? What is the name of the file?
I'm using Win XP on my laptop.
Regards
Heinrich

Clipboard Apr 18, 2008

is the destination. You can paste the image wherever you want. I use Photoshop to crop and compress the image into jpeg. Though with Vista's builtin accessory this is not needed anymore.

You can even paste it into Word if you want, but I usually use Paint.

..if you press Alt+Printscreen, you will only capture the current window, without the rest of your desktop

It goes into the clipboard. This is why you should avoid pressing PrintScreen while copying something from one location to another, because the screenshot will replace with you had in the clipboard. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. And in some programs (eg MS Word), you can actually paste the screenshot.

Another way of doing screenshots is to use XnView or a similar program, that gives more options for taking screenshots, eg delayed (5 seconds or so) or after pressing a certain keyboard shortcut.
