I need two symbols:

cap X with a bar over it

square root symbol with a small letter x under it.

Does anyone know how I can include them in Word?

TIA:-)

math symbols in Word Sep 19, 2005

http://ace.acadiau.ca/math/mathtype.htm

Here is a link that explains how you can do it. I tried it - it works in Word XP

The X with the line on top is done using the first small icon under the upside down 'A' and the flipped 'E'. It puts the line above and gives you a box underneath to enter the X.

You also have the function of the square root in there.

Good luck!

how about Microsoft Equation Sep 20, 2005

There is a math editor in Word, I am not sure about English version names, but it is Insert/Object/Microsoft Equation 3.0 or something like that. You can than format characters, add different marks above or under characters according to the menu.

..if you have it. It is an integral part of Word but I suspect you have to insall it separately.

Yes, you do have to install it separately Sep 20, 2005

I have just done so myself (in Word 2000) after reading this thread and the advice page cited. I think it could be quite useful to me sometimes. Thank you, Isabel!

Equation editor Sep 20, 2005

Before writing my post I should have checked the other link. It was just about the same thing. Anyway, the default installation of Word is that Equation Editor intalls on the first use and if you want to have it installed immediately you need to use Advanced Installation when installing Office. In fact, many useful options are not installed as default features.
