I use at the moment 5.52za. There is a minor bug in it, when I try to expand segment but wf can't do that and I press Alt+up in order to fix the problem, I'm left with a pair of previously opened segments. Then I have to shut down Wf, copy the text from the source segment into the document, remove the open segments and continue. If I go back into the open segments I get a double segment etc.

So what version are you using and would you recommend it. I'm looking for a bug-free version.

Regards
Heinrich

Very good question May 29, 2008

I am using 5.52y with Vista and word 2003. So far so good, but once in a while like today I can't get to some fonctions. I have the annoying window popup permission denied error 70 and can't get to my PB.

So I copied and pasted on another file, tried various files, set my macro security to low, rebooted, emailed the hotline, the yahoo list and I am waiting while continuing my project with Wordfast without my PB. It is ok for now but I am thinking that I will have to remove and reinstall. So I will be following this thread to see which one should I get. I guess it depends of your settings.

How frustrating!

UAC May 29, 2008

I guess the problem is Vista, I had disabled the UAC and it just reactivated by itself. So by disabling it, I was able to access the PB.
So I would say that I am ok with the WF version I am using, I think the problems sometimes are more Vista related.

I have even considered going back to Window XP so WF would run better but I am not sure it is worth the trouble.

Where can you download a former version? May 29, 2008

I have looked through very carefully the whole Wordfast site, there is no way: you can only choose between the very last version and version 4.22. Where are all the versions between? Even a Google search didn't help. I find this very strange as it is known that often new versions come with bugs and then you cannot go back?

Always keep former versions May 29, 2008

Re Christel's point, I was told that you should always keep copies of previous Wordfast versions for precisely that reason, so I just have them named under their version name in my Wordfast folder, but with my current version operational as the template, of course. This isn't much use if you haven't done so, I know! I'm using 5.52zd without any problems that I'm aware of, but then I'm still on XP, not Vista. I have also installed it on my new laptop, but I made sure I kept that as XP too, as I'd heard of so many problems with Vista.

I know I had problems with expand segment in one of the previous versions in that the command on the drop-down menu didn't work, but the shortcut worked fine - Alt Page Down. At least I think it was that way round - it's a while ago now.

Wf versions May 30, 2008

Hi all,

latest downloadable Wf version (5.53) is very stable and bug-free version here (Word 2003 and Windows Xp) for a
basic usability (glossary propagation, correct TM supply and
not much more).

In relation to a former version repository, perhaps this link

http://www.wordfast.net/beta/

is what you are looking for, Christel. (a lot of versions/beta versions "to play" with)

Have a good time

Félix

Only beta versions, though May 31, 2008

Thank you, Félix, anyway!

I was looking for a former version (I would prefer 550h2). I have version 5.0 on my second computer but it seems not to work properly any more and I wanted to replace it with a "fresh" one (the same, i. e. 5.0, or 550h2 which seems to come with improved features, at least reading the version history). I have purchased Wf in May 2004, so I'm not entitled any more to update and I need a version prior to May 2007.

On my other computer, I have still version 4.22, but I found the TM Editor that came with version 5.0 indeed very practical.

Maybe someone can help me out?

I beg your pardon, Heinrich, for hijacking somehow your thread, but I thought it did'nt make much sense to discuss the pros and cons of former versions if we are not able to download them any more to try them out in case of problems with a more recent one.

We could share May 31, 2008

If there is a bug-free version out there, we could share. I did this previously. Now I'm running 5.53, but it reorganises the tm far too often. Perhaps other bugs are still to be found.
Cheers
Heinrich

The last bug-free version was 4.22t22 May 31, 2008

The last bug-free version was 4.22t22. All subsequent versions have bugs. The recommened version of WF is the version with the least number of bugs relevant to your specific situation. Download new versions regularly, and always keep your old versions.
