Hi Nicole,

Sorry for my poor English, knowing that we could exchange fluently in French !

No, just create an empty Word file where you tape or paste the symbols you need.

Then copy what you need and go to Replace ... All.

Copier / Remplacer tout,

Is that the good answer ?

C'est la bonne soluce ?

Amitiés,

A.C.

Dear Nicole and Adrien,

Adrien actually is correct about the point of "Not one by one!"

But as for quotation marks, I think the usual issue is replacing straight quotes for French quotes; am I right?

Actually, being able to type more kinds of symbols has been requested.

In the meanwhile, you have to options:

1- To use the Alt+Codes (Alt+NumPad Number):
http://usefulshortcuts.com/alt-codes/punctuation-alt-codes.php

2- To use Adrien's way, but with one more point; to distinguish between the opening and closing straight quotes, you need to:

a- Find what: space+quote -> Replace with: opening French quote

b- Find what: quote+space -> Replace with: closing French quote

I hope this helps.

Distinguishing Notes Oct 18, 2010

Dear Nicole,

(I have the last version of WordfastPro, Windows 7 and Office 2010)

I made a small test and the .ppt looks fine but still 2 problems remain:

2- I have to translate only the slides and not the notes, but the notes are also coming in WFP.

You can change the Master Notes to All Caps to distinguish the notes when you open the PPT file in Wordfast Pro. View > Notes Master > Select All in the Notes box > Font > All Caps. You can uncheck the option again in the target translated file.

This video shows the steps:
http://www.screencast.com/t/N6enOBJrkDCI

That is one method.

If you like to use the other method of deleting the notes, here is a workaround:

- Open a copy of the PPT file.
- In PowerPoint 2007, click Office Button > Prepare > Inspect Document
- Check "Presentation Notes"
- Click "Inspect"
- Click "Remove All"
- Save

- Open the PPT in WFP; now there are no "Note" imported.
- Translate the file, and make sure all your translated segments are committed to the TM

If you want to have the PPT files with untranslated notes:

- Open the original PPT file (including Notes) in WFP.
- Change the Fuzzy Match Threshold into 96.
- Pre-translate using the toolbar button "Translate All".
- You can also make the notes in CAPS and add a large Penalty" on "Case" (say 5) differences in the case that some notes could include similar segments that might be translated from the TM.
- Now, leave the notes segments empty and "Save Translated File".

I hope this helps.

WFP 2.4.1 Skip Notes Pages Dec 10, 2010

Dear Nicole and All,

Please download and install the latest version of Wordfast Professional 2.4.1 (released just a few days ago) available at:
http://www.wordfast.com/store_download.html

Now, before opening the PPT(X) in WFP, you can go to Edit > Preferences > Formats > Default PowerPoint [2007] Filter and check "Skip Notes Pages".

I hope this helps.

Good to know Werecat worked well for you. However, you should be aware of the fact there are pitfalls when using Werecat, as explained on the author's site. With the availability of Wordfast Anywhere (see http://youtu.be/66qZTGmtCQ8 ), it no longer makes sense to use Werecat to translate PPT (and especially PPTX) IMO.

You can use an AutoHotKey script to take care if thèse when translating into French with Wordfast Pro. See http://youtu.be/VPt2leh1KiA for details
