Distinguishing Notes

I made a small test and the .ppt looks fine but still 2 problems remain:
2- I have to translate only the slides and not the notes, but the notes are also coming in WFP.
You can change the Master Notes to All Caps to distinguish the notes when you open the PPT file in Wordfast Pro. View > Notes Master > Select All in the Notes box > Font > All Caps. You can uncheck the option again in the target translated file.
[I cannot just delete the notes in the document, they should remain there, but in source language.]
If you like to use the other method of deleting the notes, here is a workaround:
- Open a copy of the PPT file.
- In PowerPoint 2007, click Office Button > Prepare > Inspect Document
- Check "Presentation Notes"
- Click "Inspect"
- Click "Remove All"
- Save
- Open the PPT in WFP; now there are no "Note" imported.
- Translate the file, and make sure all your translated segments are committed to the TM
If you want to have the PPT files with untranslated notes:
- Open the original PPT file (including Notes) in WFP.
- Change the Fuzzy Match Threshold into 96.
- Pre-translate using the toolbar button "Translate All".
- You can also make the notes in CAPS and add a large Penalty" on "Case" (say 5) differences in the case that some notes could include similar segments that might be translated from the TM.
- Now, leave the notes segments empty and "Save Translated File".

Many thanks Lucia for the tip about werecat. It looks like saving me a lot of time and trouble.
Good to know Werecat worked well for you. However, you should be aware of the fact there are pitfalls when using Werecat, as explained on the author's site. With the availability of Wordfast Anywhere (see http://youtu.be/66qZTGmtCQ8 ), it no longer makes sense to use Werecat to translate PPT (and especially PPTX) IMO.

I still have the problem that now, I have to change the apostrophes and quotation marks one by one in PowerPoint after translating with Wordfast Pro.
You can use an AutoHotKey script to take care if thèse when translating into French with Wordfast Pro. See http://youtu.be/VPt2leh1KiA for details
