I have the handbook, I\'ve read the respective portions, but I\'m still having problems with the translation of footnotes:

1) in some cases (not always) Wordfast refuses to proceed, alleging that there are still footnotes in the source text - and these have been all cut and pasted... If, to continue, I erase the source text, the footnotes are also gone, in spite of being indicated in the target text.

2) a few times, due to the specificities of the Hungarian language, the order of the footnotes shall be different in the target text (it is legal stuff, so it shall be very accurate), but I am unable to change their order, at least not in a reliable way, to 1,2,3: instead, the order of the footnotes looks something like 2,1,4,3.

FYI, for the time being, I have only the \"free\" version, downloaded from the Wordfast website - could this be a reason for my problems? Did you encounter similar difficulties?

TIA, Eva

Try Wordfast Yahoogroup Jul 19, 2003

First the only difference between *full* version and the free on ist the size of your translation memory, in the free version it is limited, but that should not have to do with you prob.
Try the Wordfast Yahoogoup http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wordfast/ and search the archive for footnotes maybe you find the solution, if not ask a new question they are all very nice...

Footnotes in Wordfast Jul 19, 2003

Hi Eva,

You better ask this question in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wordfast/

From your post I gather that you cut the footnotes from the source segment (so they aren't in the source anymore) and paste them in the target segment. So I guess you are doing it the right way.

If you're based in Hungary you can buy a Wordfast license for 90 euro. Wordfast has improved a lot since the free version but I'm not sure your footnote problems will be different.

Regards,
Gerard

Many thanks to both of you Jul 19, 2003

this is what I'm going to do, I only did not know there was a forum.

Dear Gérard: what makes you think I can buy Wordfast at half of the price? I doubt, but I'll look up a distributor anyway: I am quite happy with the software.

Thanks again to both of you.

With best regards,

Eva

PS: just a quick follow-up - I think the problem lies with the source files (some of them), so it is not a problem with the software.

Check WF website (http://www.wordfast.net) for pricing and conditions, and to buy the license as well.
