I've successfully converted a Trados txt file into TMX, but WF Pro won't recognize it. I'm trying to open it as a TM. Is this incorrect? Any advice would be appreciated. This is urgent. Thank you!

Why do you conclude that you were successful? Does this mean that the TMX file is successfully imported by another program? Does it open in a text editor? Did you try wf2tmx utility for conversion to Wordfast translation memory?

Dear Evan,
What is the language codes or your project and your TMX. You need to make sure they are the same. For example, you can have DE-DE (German-Germany) in your TMX while you have only DE (German) in your WFP project while opening the TMX, you see?
Otherwise, as colleagues suggested, you can use an external tool to convert the TMX to Wordfast TXT TM. You can use Olifant:
http://okapi.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
- File > Open to select the TM
- Edit > Select All
- Entries > Remove Codes > Remove both TMX tags and their content > OK
- Save as "Wordfast TXT TM"
I hope this helps.

In response to the last two replies, first of all, thank you!
The thing is, WF Pro won't even let me try to open a tmx meaning that when I try to open a TM, the only files even visible are text files. The tmx files in the same folder don't even appear as an option to open (this is w WF Pro on my PC). On my Mac, the files show up but they are grayed out and cannot be selected.
I tried using both Olifant and Xbench. I can't be sure if the conversion was successful, but in any case, both softwares output a tmx file. Shouldn't WF at least allow me to try to open the file (shouldn't the file be visible as an item to select to open?)?
Thanks for further clarification!

Make sure you create a Project in Wordfast Pro with the same language codes as those of the TMX TM. To open the TM:
1- Open "Translation Memory" menu.
2- Select "New/Select TM".
3- Click "Open" (Button).
4- Click "Browse" (button)
5- Select "Translation Memory eXchange" from the dropdown menu.
6- Locate the TMX and click "Open".
7- Make sure that your Source and Target locales selected are the same as the TMX > OK

It could be another drop-down menu oversight. In Olifant, you have to select "Wordfast TM File" in either "Save as" or "Export" (File menu).
I hope this helps. Please let me know.

Yasmin,
I was missing STEP 5, selecting Translation Memory eXchange. It's easy to overlook! Everything works fine after selecting this. Thank you for your help, much appreciated!

Since there are only two options in the dialog, why not modify it as follows: make both TXT and TMX translation memory files visible to the user in a single dialog and apply the respective filter automatically?
