Excel JA->EN Japanese characters not displaying in WF

I can't find out why Wordfast Pro is suddenly not displaying the Japanese characters in the latest batch of Japanese files I'm translating, it's never done this before... And while I can read the characters in the Excel and copy them to anything just fine (it seems) but Wordfast just won't recognize them and I -really- need these characters to register as many of these files appear similar and I don't want to have to hand translate this many files.
Any idea what's going on/how I can fix it? Or other suggestions to get this project done with minimal headaches?
File type: Multiple Excel files (.xls JA-source) with multiple sheets in each.

Just a suggestion (no guarantee it will solve your problem): save your Excel file as XLSX and try to import that into WFP. Even if you have Excel 2003 or older, you should still be able to save as XLSX (provided you have installed the MS compatibility pack). However, saving as XLSX in Excel 2007/2010 would give optimal results.
I assume you are using the latest version (2.4.4) of WFP (if not, do upgrade) and you have configured WFP so as to use a font for the source language in the editor that is capable of displaying Japanese characters.
What font is being used in your Excel file? Is it the same that was used in previous Excel files (those that imported without problems in WFP)?
