vajtarget Spain English to Spanish |
Hello! I need some help. I'm trying to download the free version of wordfast classic. I learned in this forum that you can use it as long as you TM is not big enough. The point is that worfast.com does not make very easy to download this free version if not impossible. Can anyone tell me how to download this engine? Or could you tell me about other free translation engines? Thanks a lot.

Wordfast anywhere is a cloud-based software that you can reach at www.freetm.com you do not need to download or install anything on your PC. No license is required. If you need help to learn how to use it you can contact me by skype: eurox55 (this is my skype account). Thanks. Paolo Sebastiani

OmegaT and Anaphraseus, both free programs. Anaphraseus offers a workflow similar to Wordfast Classic and uses a compatible TM format, but has less features as compared to WFC.

Just go to www.wordfast.org.
This version is useful just for practice, as it only handles Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly.
With some twiking I was able to translate ttx and html files with it.

That version is from September 2002, it's probably a miracle if it works in Word 2010. I wouldn't recommend it to someone starting with CAT tools in 2012. If price is an issue and a free tool is a must, it's better to use Wordfast Anywhere, OmegaT or Anaphraseus.

Actually, if anyone can get WFC 3.35x to work on a modern computer, he is probably savvy enough to use it well. I'm under the impression that WFC 3.35x won't work with Word 2007 and newer, though (can anyone confirm this?). Will version 4.x work on it?
The version downloadable from Logos' wordfast.org is not the non-demo free version of 3.35x, as far as I can tell. The non-demo free version is 1.346 MB and has (in the one I have) a modified date of 25-10-2002. The version downloadable from Logos' wordfast.org is 1.201 MB large and has a modified date of 21-05-2003. Can anyone tell us how to know which one is the real one? As far as I know, Yves did not give his non-demo free version a new version number, hence the confusion.

The first version that was *officially* Word 2007 aware was 5.51h, released in March 2007. This doesn't mean earlier versions wouldn't work in Word 2007, however. Actually, a colleague of mine who was especially fond of the 4.22t version (still available for download) – for whatever strange reason - told me she was able to use it under Word 2010. I just don't see the point in using a version that old.

I have no idea. Regardless of the date stamp, the code in 3.35x has to be from September or October 2002, but why should anyone care?
