Hi all,
I'm trying Wordfast Pro 2.4.4, the latest version, and I've noticed something strange when running the Transcheck function after finishing my translation of a very short Word file.
One of the target segments ends with a full stop as it was in the source. And that's OK.
The following segment then SHOULD begin with a CAPITAL letter (it was correct in the source text).
In order to try the program I made a mistake on purpose and started the new segment with a small letter, but when running the Transcheck or the spell check THE MISTAKE was NOT detected at all.
-------
In another segment I made another mistake on purpose:
instead of beginning exactly on the left of the line I moved a few spaces to the right BUT this mistake wasn't detected either and when opening the translated file the sentences of the text were not aligned, obviously!
I checked all the possible tables of preferences but I could not find any option to tick or enable that might be connected with these very important issues.
Isn't there a way to make the program DETECT these mistakes which are so easy to make while we are translating?
Where am I wrong?
Thank you for your kind help.

Try using the spellcheck utility, rather than transcheck for checking spelling and grammar. Another work-round would be to save the translated file and spellcheck that in Word. | | | |

Thanks, yes, one could certainly check the file once it has been saved as a Word document as you suggest but I imagined there was something more automatic as these are very common, simple mistakes to detect.
Thank you for your suggestions anyway.

WF's transcheck just checks:
1) if the TAGs in the source segment are used in the target segment
2) if these TAGs are in the correct order (sometimes it is useless as the word order changes froma labguage to another)
Unfortunately in these pro features WF shows its flaws.
It does not catch repeated words, double spaces, missing punctuations, etc.
Memoq and Trados do.

That's what I was afraid of! (
Perhaps the new releases and the update to 3.0 which has just been announced will be improved on this front.
Have a good afternoon. )

Just curious: when/where was 3.0 announced? I don't see anything at http://wordfast.com/ and nothing in my mail either... | | | |

I hope someone tells them about the typo in that announcement:

Yes, you're right.
This kind of mistakes is very common -- wrong letter order -- when typing in any language. And unfortunately very difficult to be seen by the writer.
BTW where can I find the application that create that nice RED ARROW you put in the screenshot?
I suppose it's some free add-on, like another one I've seen that creates circles around a word and similar things. But I have no idea where to find this add-on.
Pardon my asking.
Thank you. Have a good evening.

No problem: it's Jing, a free application by Techsmith (http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html). I highly recommend it. There's a version for Windows and Mac, it allows you to take both still snapshots and record short videos of your screen, and you can post the output to their site (www.screencast.com).
Here is an example of a video recorded with Jing:

and of an annotated snapshot:

They have a paid version (Pro), but I've managed quite well with the free one so far. I have posted more than 1300 snapshots and videos to my account and I have consumed only 15% of the disk space allocated to me for free (2 GB):
