Hi Everyone, As you may know, we will be releasing Wordfast Pro 4, a major upgrade to our standalone, platform-independent TM tool, in early 2014. Wordfast is pleased to announce our WFP4 beta program, which will give all translators free web-based access to the software. See more Hi Everyone, As you may know, we will be releasing Wordfast Pro 4, a major upgrade to our standalone, platform-independent TM tool, in early 2014. Wordfast is pleased to announce our WFP4 beta program, which will give all translators free web-based access to the software. Wordfast Pro 4 Online (WFP4o) will now be available for testing inside of your web-browser through your Wordfast Anywhere account. If you wish to test WFP4o but you do not have a Wordfast Anywhere account, you can register for a free account at www.freetm.com. From inside of your Wordfast Anywhere workspace, you can access WFP4o by going to file > switch to WFP4o. This will open the document you are translating inside of WFP4o. Please note: WFP4o uses the TMs, glossaries, files, and settings in your Wordfast Anywhere account so all file management must be done inside of Wordfast Anywhere. You cannot add TMs, glossaries or upload files directly to WFP4o. Additionally, as WFP4o is a BETA VERSION, you are likely to encounter some bugs or issues. We hope you will help us improve the platform by reporting any problems you encounter. You can view a list of known issues below. To report feedback, please go to the Help tab and click ‘Feedback’. The feedback will be reviewed by our development team for implementation into the desktop version of the software, which is scheduled to be released next year. The Wordfast Anywhere/WFP4o platform offers users a confidential, password-protected workspace on Wordfast’s centralized server. As always, any material entrusted to the Wordfast server (TMs, glossaries, files, personal information, etc.) remains strictly confidential and is never shared with any third party. If you have any questions, please contact me directly. Call me old-fashioned, but I do not want to have all my work files on-line for two reasons: security and convenience. Security, because whatever the assurances I only believe that my files are safe and confidential when they are on my own machine. B D Finch wrote: If Wordfast replaces the current Wordfast Pro with a cloud system, I shall be looking for different CAT tool. I believe there's a misunderstanding here: Wordfast Pro 4 Online is a new addition to the Wordfast product range, not a replacement of Wordfast Pro 3. The successor to Wordfast Pro 3 will be Wordfast Pro 4. There's already a Windows and a Mac beta version available: it's a Java application, like Wordfast Pro 3, only with a new and fancier user interface. Once the dust settles, there will be four different Wordfast clients to choose from (if I got it right): - Classic
- Pro
- Anywhere
- Pro Online
Pro 4 Online can be considered as a "preview" of the full-fledged Pro 4 that you can install on your local drive.

Thank you very much Dominic for your explanation! I also misunderstood the first message and started thinking of getting a new standalone CAT tool. Cheers!
Hi, To answer Gyula's question, we will offer a Linux 64-bit version of Wordfast Pro 4 but not the initial release. I will keep you posted on when that will be available. Also, to address Hedwig's concern, as Dominique mentioned, the online version of Wordfast Pro 4 is simply to make the version accessible for beta testing. The official release will be a desktop product. Kristyna Marrero wrote: we will offer a Linux 64-bit version of Wordfast Pro 4 but not the initial release. I am really sorry to hear that, Krystina. I believe most of us need more than 2 GB of RAM nowadays and most of us use therefore 64 bit OS. One can say this is the standard in 2013. Just take a look at Ubuntu's download page: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop First place: 64 bit version. Second place: 32 bit version. Same with Fedora: http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora First place: 64 bit version Second place: other platforms In my opinion, if you do not support 64 bit versions Linux, you practically do not support Linux at all. And in this case your slogan "The #1 standalone translation memory tool for ANY platform" is nothing more than marketing. I think you might have misunderstood Kristyna. She wrote: 'To answer Gyula's question, we will offer a Linux 64-bit version of Wordfast Pro 4 but not the initial release. I will keep you posted on when that will be available.' I take this to mean that Wordfast will be releasing a 64-bit Linux version, they just won't be releasing it immediately. You seem to be saying that they won't release one at all. Michael

Dear Gyula, We do apologise for any inconvenience. There is another "long story" that might explain that. WF Pro 4 uses (some) different technologies that WF Pro 1.x, 2.x, and 3.x have not been using. That is why WF Pro 4 is expected to have long-awaited fixes, and time of "coming soon" will make better sense. So I believe WF Pro developers will take this into consideration. As always, many thanks for your continuous feedback!
