Version 5 latest build, licensed version.
After setting up my new computer I inserted my license number (bought in 2003).

In the past 3 weeks I got the error message that:

"This TM of over 500 TUs was processed with an unlicensed version of Wordfast [not true].
Your TM is fine, but cannot be used for the moment.
Matches cannot be found in this TM. Please buy a license number (if not already done), type it in Wordfast, then REORGANIZE the TM."

Great.
This came up a few times and I was able to just close it (the number is already there and visible) and reorganize and keep working. NOW it won't let me do anything. I'm paralyzed and this job is due at the end of the day. It's a bit of an emergency because this TM is preciously useful for this regular customer and I can be done rather quickly.

TIA,
sylvie

Hello Sylive,

After setting up a new computer, you need to "re-licence", i.e. get a new licence number, which corresponds to the new install number (derived from the new hardware).
Have you done that?
If not, you can do it at www.wodrfast.net in the section Community/Login, wher you log in using the original e-mail address and install number. Then just go to "relicence", enter the new install number, and you get the new licence number.

Regards

Marek

Download an older version of Wordfast Aug 18, 2005

Wordfast still offers older version on its site. Try downloading and installing version 4.22 and plugging in your numbers. That'll at least give you a working version to get through the day, then you can contact wordfast directly for help.

Good luck!

relicense Aug 18, 2005

Hi Sylvie,
There has been a tightening in the license system of WF and for some reason, some older licenses don't seem to work anymore (mine still does though!).
You just need to relicense. Check the install number you have now and enter it in the relicense page. You'll most probably be given a different license number than the one you used to have.

Kind regards,
Grace.

Licensing tighter? Are you sure? Aug 19, 2005

Are you sure about this? I can't recall Yves having said anything about this on the Yahoogroup. Why on earth would there be a "tightening"?

Hi Grace Aug 19, 2005

Yes, that must have been the problem. I contacted Wordfast Support and we relicensed again, this time together and it worked.
Sure gave me a scare though.

Thanks for your postings and concern, folks.

Hi Samuel,

I've no idea why, but I remembered having read something about it.
I found it now in a message from David (hope he doesn't mind me posting it here):
David Daduc to wordfast
Hi Angela,
From: Angela Arnone

I'm sorry if you haven't received my answer from Wordfast hotline. I sent an
answer yesterday but your email address was mistaken; I re-sent my answer
today. Anyway, I hope my answer will find you if I write from here. The info
might also come in handy to others one day, too.

If you upgrade from version 4 to version 5, it can happen that Wordfast will
not accept your original license number. It should only happen in a few
cases, not affecting all users. The license-checking code in Wordfast was
strenghtened and this is a side-effect I think.

Anyway, go to www.wordfast.net > the "Buy" section and follow the link to
re-license Wordfast. Use your original email address and install number to
log in the system and re-license. Your new license number will be displayed
immediately; note it well. Enter your new license number in Wordfast and
re-organize your TM. This should make Wordfast accept your license.

If you have any problem or question regarding this issue, please contact me
through Wordfast hotline at www.wordfast.net.

Cheers,
David

Kind regards,
Grace.

Oh I see, then I misunderstood what you said. I thought you meant that it was intended that some earlier serial numbers would no longer work on later versions, but what David meant was that the new code is less hackable and therefore "stronger". In other words, Wordfast's policy of accepting any 4.x registration as valid for any 5.x installation hasn't changed.

That's why I also mentioned in my first reply that mine was still working (originally of a version 4).
