Word freezes when I move from one segment to another

Hi everyone,

I have recently faced this Wordfast 5.50 problem.

When trying to move from one segment to another (Alt+Down), Word will simply freeze so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to close it. However, when I reopen Word and try to resume translation session, it will resume ok (reorganising the TM because the segment "was left opened") but freeze again as I try to move from that segment to the next one. The TM is very small (only 8 TUs), however, I do use two relatively large glossaries around 2,000 and 500 terms. The problem started some time back when I was still using an older Wordfast version. Since then I have upgraded to 5.50, replaced my normal.dot with a fresh one and even manually rearranged one of my TMs assuming it was some TM problem that caused this freezing behaviour. However, I now use a newer Wordfast and a new TM and the problem is still there.

It does not happen with every segment or file, but is very annoying. Deleting the segment and pasting it from the source file helps... sometimes.

Any ideas?

I would have tried to update Wordfast again. Check your version. The newest one is 5.60.

I had some problems with a 5.5 build as well, so it's worth a try.

Nothing to do with the size of your glossaries Feb 22, 2007

Hi
This problem is nothing to do with the size of your glossaries or TM. I would assume that some other software is interfering. I suggest you go to the troubleshooting section of the manual and the website (knowledge base). www.wordfast.net

In this situation it is always helpful to know what anti-virus software you are using, what operating system and what version of word.

Thanks much to both of you.

Ivan, upgrading does seem to be working miracles for me. I have not had any freezing problems since posting the topic although I could not see anywhere on the Wordfast website that the update would have to do anything with improved stability. Anyways, it does seem to have improved with my system, so I am quite happy (crossing my fingers)! Thanks so much for prompting me to try the new version.
