About me

I've been a translator, editor, and writer for more than 20 years. In 1985, I created an international translation business called The French Connection. My core competencies are business-related texts (finance, insurance, legal, marketing, etc.) and technical (electromagnetic compatibility, petroleum, telecommunications, etc.). I've also worked on international tax agreements, video games, social sciences, literature, and in many other subject areas in the course of my career. My corporate clients and translation agency clients are based in three countries.

Although my main expertise is freelance French (to English) business translation, I have also translated, edited and rewritten five fiction and non-fiction books in the last four years for French authors wishing to publish in English. The most recent of these, NUAGES ORPHELINS (which I translated under the title ORPHAN CLOUDS), was published by 1stBooks.com and distributed by Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. During that time, I also edited BUGAROOS for an American author--a children's book since published, and a navigation book for a British-Canadian sailor. I just finished translating part of a fiction/poetry book by a French author for Crossroad Publishing in New York and am now editing a fiction book with a southern France setting for a British author.

For 12 years, I worked as a full-time salaried employee for both French and American companies while residing in Paris and Brussels. I was also a foreign correspondent in Paris for a U.S.-based travel magazine. That experience and my frequent visits to France since then, have given me special insight into French business psychology, as well as a genuine appreciation of the French people and their culture--an insight which I believe is reflected in the quality of my translations.

My minimum translation rate is 10 centimes per word for European-based clients and 12 cents/word for US-based clients.
