The Team: A team of five translators, three reviewers and one project manager worked together on one of the most awaited first-person shooter games of the last few years.

The project: We processed over 120 000 source words spread over 30 batches, created a full bilingual glossary, drafted a complete manual and a quick-start guide and delivered everything on time and within budget.

The challenge: Highly idiomatic and specialized Russian source required a multi-tiered approach to translation and review. The English target became the new source language for the follow-up localization projects (French, German, Spanish, etc.)

The result: An unmitigated success. The English version of the game is scheduled to be released in March 2007.

He came on foot, leading a heavily laden horse by the bridle. It was late in the day; the stalls of the ropers and saddlers were already closed, and the street was empty. Although it was hot, the man had a black coat thrown over his shoulders. He drew attention.
The stranger wasn’t old, yet his hair was almost completely white. Under his coat he wore a worn leather jerkin with ties at the neck and shoulders. When he removed his coat, everyone saw the sword belted behind his back. There was nothing remarkable in that; in Vizima almost everyone went armed; but no one carried his sword behind him like a bow or quiver.
[...] the stranger didn’t sit at a table among the few who were there; he stood at the bar watching the tavern keeper. He took a pull from the mug.
"Pay and get out!" shouted Pockmarked .
Only now did the stranger turn to look at him.

One of the men behind raised a fist to deal a blow. The stranger twisted in place, knocking Pockmarked off balance. The sword hissed from its scabbard and gleamed briefly in the light of the torches. There was a struggle, a scream. One of the customers bolted for the door. A chair overturned with a crash; crockery hit the floor, contents splashing. The tavern keeper, his lips atremble, saw the hideously sliced face of Pockmarked, who, clutching the edge of the counter, sank and disappeared from view, like a man drowning. The other two lay on the floor. One didn’t move; one writhed and twitched in a quickly spreading pool of dark blood. About LocWorks
We are an enthusiastic team of
dedicated specialists providing high quality localization services for IT
companies, game developers and publishers. With a constantly expanding
portfolio of localized games, business applications and Web content into all
major Western and Eastern European languages, we are in an unique position to

The Founder
After obtaining a B.A. in Law (1998)
and a M.A. in Translation (1999) from the Université de Ličge, Piotr started
out on his fascinating journey in the localization industry. He worked as a
translator, project coordinator and project manager for companies such as
Seagate Software (currently Business Objects), Simultrans, LionBridge, and
Symantec. In 2006, he moved to Poland and set up LocWorks, where he mixes with
gusto his extensive experience, his passion for video games and his love of a
job well done.
The Team
The LocWorks team counts over 25
freelance full-time translators, reviewers, software and desktop-publishing
engineers. Each one of us has been very busy working in localization for
a minimum of 4 years and is a recognized specialist in his or her area. We
play video games on a regular basis, so we know our FPSs from our RPGs and our
string length restrictions from our string tables, not to mention our
Warcraft from our
StarCraft.

carefully planning out the project and informing you fully of the risks and

The Projects
Our largest project to date is the
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. PC game, for which we
were outsourced by CD Projekt. We created the English source from the
Russian original (150 000 words) and we designed from scratch the first
version of the atmospheric manual. We are also heavily involved in the
linguistic QA of the English version of the upcoming
The Witcher game.
Our most recent projects include the translation of the
Halo 3 Xbox manual into Czech,
Hungarian, Polish, Russian and Slovak and the translation of the
Crash of the Titans title for portable
consoles from French into English, German, Spanish and Italian.
We are proud to support the modding community for the Source Engine for
Half-Life 2 by providing translations
as well as localization advice to the developers.
