With a background in languages, tourism and marketing, I have more than 20 years of experience in the marketing of fresh fruits and agricultural products. My work as a Marketing Assistant at the Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) of the US Embassy (covering Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago and the Southern Caribbean) in Caracas helped interested importers of agricultural products of the region to find a source of agricultural and processed food products in the US. This task required constant liaison with government autonomous agencies, private sector corporations & Ministry offices. My extensive knowledge of the market was instrumental for organizing seminars and accompanying trade missions from the US to the region. In 1990 I received a Certificate of Merit for Superior Accomplishment from the United States Department of Agriculture.
As Director of USAFRUITS I was a pioneer in the promotion of US fruits in Central and South America through in-store promotional activities, advertising and technical assistance to the trade at a time when consumers had a limited knowledge about the different varieties of imported fruits that were available as well as the different ways in which these fruits had to be ripened and consumed, and at a time when most of the trade had poor handling practices for perishable products or poor facilities to carry refrigerated items. Currently Director of Consultores 27 Ltd, I continue to coordinate these marketing activities with US fresh fruits in seven different countries of Latin America and am fully responsible for designing, coordinating and recommending the different marketing activities based on the constraints identified for each country. I am fluent in Spanish, English and French.
