Eroticism has this in common with an addictive drug: that there is a coercive element to its pleasure with which part of us is in complicity, and part not. Thus ever since time began men have been trying to enjoy eroticism without being destroyed by it. Societies, religions can be defined in the way they deal with this conundrum. Polygamy, monogamy with repression, monogamy with affairs, monogamy with prostitutes, serial monogamy. Not to mention individual solutions of great ingenuity, or desperation: Victor Hugo with the door knocked through the wall of his office, to let in a girl each afternoon. Auden's flair for finding call-boys in every town. Picasso who simply refused when wife and mistress demanded he choose between them. Then there is always the hair-shirt of course. But perhaps the thing to remember when you wake up with a life full of fresh paint and tortuous complications is that eroticism wasn't invented for you, nor merely for the survival of the species perhaps, but for a divinity's entertainment. Nothing generates so many opportunities for titillation and schadenfreude as eroticism. Which is why it lies at the centre of so much narrative. How the gods thronged the balconies of heaven to see the consequences of Helen's betrayal! And your friends are watching too. Your antics have put the shine on many a late-night conversation.
On the borders between mythology and history, that wily survivor Odysseus was the first who learnt to trick the gods. And perhaps his smartest trick of all was that of lashing himself to the mast before the Sirens came in earshot. There are those of course who are happy to stand at the railings, even scan the horizon. Otherwise, choose your mast, find the ropes that suit you: sport, workaholism, celibacy with prayerbook and bell... But the kindest and toughest ropes of all are probably to be found in some suburban semi-detached with rowdy children and a woman who never allows the dust to settle for too long.

تتشابه الشهوة الجنسية مع إدمان المخدرات: فهناك عنصر قسري يتعلق بالمتعة المصاحبة لها، حيث يذعن جانب من شخصيتنا لهذه المتعة، أما الجانب الآخر فإنه لا يفعل كسابقه. ولذلك، فمنذ نشأة البشرية، كان الإنسان يحاول دائما الاستمتاع بهذه الشهوة الجنسية، دون أن يسمح لها بأن تدمره. ويمكن تحديد معالم المجتمعات والأديان حسب الطريقة التي تتعامل بها مع هذه المعضلة. فهناك من المجتمعات ما يقبل تعدد الزوجات، والزواج الأحادي مع الإحساس بالظلم، أو مع وجود علاقات خارج إطار الزواج، أو مع وجود علاقات بالعاهرات، كما أن هناك من المجتمعات ما يقبل الزواج مرة بعد مرة. وحري بنا أن نشير إلى الحلول الفردية التي كانت تتسم بكل من البراعة واليأس في آن: فقد كان لفيكتور هوجو باب داخل جدار مكتبه، تدخل منه فتاة كل يوم، في فترة ما بعد الظهيرة. كما كان أودين يمتاز بنزعته إلى العثور على الأطفال الخدام في كل مدينة. كما كان بيكاسو قد رفض عرض زوجته ووصيفتها بالاختيار بينهما. كما كان هناك دائما ملابس الشعر، التي كانت تساعد الإنسان في ألا يفكر في الشهوة الجنسية. ولكن الشيء الذي نتذكره عندما نستيقظ في الصباح، ونعيش حياتنا ببهجتها وعذاباتها، هو أن الشهوة الجنسية لم يتم اختراعها من أجلنا، أو من أجل بقاء الأجناس فقط، ولكنها خلقت من أجل المتعة الأبدية. ولا شيء يولد العديد من فرص دغدغة المشاعر والشعور بالرضا لأسى الآخرين، مثل الشهوة الجنسية. ولهذا فإنها تكون محل اهتمام العديد من الأساطير. ومنها أن الآلهة قد احتشدت في شرفات الجنة لتشاهد عواقب خيانة هيلين! وكذلك، فإن أصدقاءك يشاهدون أيضا. وقد يسلط سلوكنا الغريب الضوء على العديد من أحاديث الليل التي تشير إلى هذه الأساطير.
وفيما بين الأسطورة والتاريخ، فإن أوديسيس المخادع كان أول من استطاع تعلم كيفية خداع الآلهة. وربما كانت خدعته الكبرى، عندما استطاع أن يهرب بعيدا عن السريانة (كائن أسطوري) التي كانت على مدى السمع منه. وهناك من يسعد بالطبع بوقوفه بين بين يرقب الأفق من بعيد. فإذا لم تكن تريد ذلك، فعليك اختيار المكان الذي تستطيع اللجوء إليه، وعليك اختيار الطريق التي تناسبك: الرياضة، أو إدمان العمل، أو التبتل مع كتب الصلاة... ولكن قد يكون أسهل وأصعب طريق في آن واحد، هو أن تكون في مكان منعزل مع أطفال مشاكسين وامرأة لا تحب الاستقرار.

The company is named Dar Al-Tarjama (DAT)
The idea of Dar Al-Tarjama (DAT) aims for the establishment of a worldwide, comprehensive translation practice, starting with the Arab countries then spreading to the rest of the world. DAT started as virtual team of volunteers in 2003. By October 2005 DAT was a joint stock Egyptian company with a paid-up capital of 250,000. All funding for DAT’s capital was done exclusively by its members (DATians). DAT owes much, for its wide exposure and evolution, to Amr Khaled’s initiative “Life Makers”.

In December 2007 DAT’s latest count reached almost 420 active members translating into, and from, various languages: Arabic – English – French – German – Spanish – Italian – Chinese – Japanese – Dutch.
DATians come from different countries that include, but are not limited to, the following countries: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, France, England, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Eastern Europe, United States of America, Canada and Australia.
Our Vision:
DAT is to take the lead in the honest conveying of the true message of Islam to all humanity, in all possible live languages. In parallel, DAT is to play a pioneering role in Arabizing modern science and technology for the welfare of all Arabs. This is to be achieved through the establishment of a worldwide and comprehensive translation practice starting with the Arab countries then spreading to the rest of the world, for the satisfaction of our Creator the Almighty Allah (SWT). The enormity of our responsibility towards this most noble mission mandates that DAT should achieve and maintain the highest attainable level of professional standards, in terms of preciseness, fluency and satisfying the needs of our global readers.
