Source text - English China’s economic growth data came in well above forecasts in the second quarter of 2007, as the GDP expansion rate surged to an 11-year high of 11.9%, driven by exports and fixed asset investment. Consumer spending has been rapidly gaining ground, as retail sales rose 16.0% year-on-year, their strongest rise since October 2005. In order to cool down the booming economy, the Chinese central bank has raised interest rates five times this year and increased the level of required reserves of commercial banks seven times since the beginning of 2007. More monetary tightening is soon to come, as soaring food prices propelled China's annual consumer price inflation to 6.5% in August, the fastest pace in nearly 11 years. In today's China, growing inflation is a very important issue, but it appears manageable and not enough to de-rail the economy.
