English term or phrase: plenary summons
"We now enclose by way of service notice of plenary summons." There is no context as such. I know what "summons" is and "plenary", but the combination of the two?

I'd say though I can't find the term anywhere.

Here's the definition:

Plenary summons. This type of summons is used to commence proceedings where there is a real dispute between the parties and/or the amount of the Plaintiff's claim is not specific or easy to calculate. For example, a plenary summons may be used where the Plaintiff claims that he or she was injured in a road traffic accident due to the Defendant's negligence. When a plenary summons is issued, the next step is for the parties to exchange pleadings (see Statement of Claim and Delivering the "Defence" in a civil case). Eventually, the case will be given a date for a trial and there may be evidence given by witnesses.

The explanation above shows that it\'s not a summons to appear in court (Vorladung). But my initial suggestion, Zivilklage, doesn\'t really fit the bil, I think.

As it\'s a notice that proceedings are being _commenced_, the following wording might work for the whole sentence:

Do include the English as there is no direct equivalent.

to capture the fact that it refers to proceedings that involve a trial, not just the exchange of affidavits and the like, you could even say:

The whole sentence would then be:

Derek (thank you) just agreed that it\'s not a Vorladung suggested an alternative to *Einleitung ...*:

\"Anzeige der Klageerhebung\"

Explanation:

Vorladung

Explanation:
A definition of this, which is apparently a form of summons specific to Irish law, will be found at: http://www.oasis.gov.ie/justice/civil_case/originating_summo...

Whether it has a direct equivalent in German law, I don't know, and I would suggest, for want of any better info, that it is explained in brief in a note.
"We now enclose by way of service" is typical legalese, and merely means "we now enclose". The "by way of service" relates to the fact that the summons has to be "served" on the party summoned, and this legalese means "we serve upon you herewith".

Bet it's an Irish text??
