The term you eventually decide upon will depend largely on your target reader. You may wish to consult the site of the postal service in the target country to check the name of a comparable service. The French term is "lettre recommandée avec accusé de réception". Commonly used abbreviated forms are :
R + AR, RAR, lettre recommandée + AR etc...

The "lettre recommandée" on its own, gives a sender proof of posting.

Two options exist :
1-the "accusé de réception" giving the sender an acknowledgement of receipt.
2-three levels of insurance, "assurance forfaitaire"

Essentially, the sender gets proof of posting ("lettre recommandée" - LR ; or "recommandée" abbr. - R) and optional "proof of receipt" - AR and/or insurance.
