Bus/Financial - Insurance / life insurance
German term or phrase: fondsgebundene Lebensversicherung
I know that it refers to a life insurance policy where portions of the premiums are invested in securities/mutual funds but I'm not sure whether *variable life insurance*, the term I found at the John Hancock site, is correct. Can anyone confirm it or provide an alternative?

AE, please.

Many thanks in advance!

How variable life insurance works
Permanent life insurance with the freedom to control your investment portfolio is called variable life insurance.

Generally, variable life insurance is the most expensive type of cash value insurance. This is because unlike whole life insurance, variable life insurance gives you complete control over your investments - be they stocks, bonds, or money market funds.

The number of times you can change and update you investment portfolio is usually unlimited, although this is something you will need to confirm with your insurance company .

Because many of the benefits of variable life insurance are wholly dependant on your ability to invest successfully, you should be absolutely certain that you understand all implications before purchasing this type of policy.

fund-linked life insurance

Explanation:
"Fund-linked life insurance A life insurance policy which helps investors to accumulate capital by combining insurance cover with investment in mutual funds. Policies are available in various currencies. Fund-linked insurance allows policyholders to benefit from the performance of the funds they choose. Since the value of the securities in the funds' portfolios can fall as well as rise, there is a risk of the investments declining in value. There is thus no guarantee of a specific sum being paid out in the policy currency upon maturity. The death benefit is, however, guaranteed. "
