attested affidavit produced to take the place of the birth certificate Explanation: I would tend to leave "certificat de notoriété" in French since it's pretty specific. It's a notarised affidavit gathering the testimony of at least three people (I think... now I'm wondering if it might be just two...) concerning a question of "generally known" fact. Generally used for birth certificates or for inheritance (to identify the deceased, the deceased's family and therefore the heirs). The above answer is a bit long (and wordy). Other possibilities: "attested affidavit produced in lieu of birth certificate" "attested affidavit drafted to replace the birth certificate" "attested affidavit to replace missing birth certificate" ... |
