El Diccionario de términos jurídicos de Alcaraz Varó traduce "good consideration" como "causa contractual adecuada" y "valuable consideration", como "causa contractural de valor cierto".

El Diccionario Bosch de Derecho define así "causa contractual": Es uno de los requisitos básicos para la existencia del contrato. Es el motivo fundamental por el que cada contratante se obliga frente al otro. Así, uno se obliga a pagar un precio porque el otro se obliga a entregar una mercancía; un contratante se obliga a beneficiar a otro, sin recibir nada a cambio, porque quiere recompensarle un servicio ya efectuado.
