Portuguese term or phrase: Cancao do Mar
Fui bailar no meu batel,
Além no mar cruel.
E o mar bramindo. Diz que eu fui roubar,a luz sem par.
Do teu olhar tão lindo.
Vem saber se o mar terá razão. Vem cá ver bailar meu coração. Se eu bailar no meu batel. Não vou ao mar cruel, e nem lhe digo aonde eu fui cantar. Sorrir, bailar, viver, sonhar...contigo
(these are the words of a song from Dulce Pontes - it is strictly for personal use. I would like to know what this song is really about.)

Explanation:
I like so much her songs!!

This is what I've found:

SONG Of THE SEA
I was dancing on my little boat
There on the cruel sea
And the sea was crying out to me
Telling me that I should steal
The incomparable light
Of your beautiful eyes
Come and prove that the sea is right
Come here and see my heart dancing
If I'II go dancing on my little boat
I won't go to the cruel sea
I'II tell her that I was singing, smiling, dancing, living and dreaming of you

agree  Sanpan (X): It was nearly perfect. * w * Here is a correction: Instead of '-the cruel sea; I'II tell her that-' It should say '-cruel sea, nor will I tell you where-' Great job though! Oh, and I think it may be 'with you', not 'of you', but don't take my word for it.

cançao do mar

Explanation:
I went to dance in my boat
Far away in the cruel ocean
And the roaring ocean
Says I went to steal
The incomparable light
From your beautiful eyes
Come see if the sea is right
Come see my heart dancing
If I dance in my boat
I won’t go to the cruel sea
And I won’t even tell it where I went to sing
Smile, dance, live, dream with you.

I've been practicing this song for over four months and am "deeply involved" with its meaning. This is my interpretation of the song: The woman is in love with a beautiful man but gossip makes it seem as if she took away his light and she wants to show him, before all those who want to destroy the relationship, that she really loves him.

agree  Chagp0 (X): Thank you Maria do Gato. I strugle with the translation as I left Portugal at the age of 15. Now 61 and loving the Tune I strugled also to understand it as Dulce Pontes and Amalia sing the song. Please keep translating our beautifull Portuguese songs
