There is already a cross-regional initiative with an Access to Archives (A2A) bid which will enable the digitisation of around 19,600 catalogue pages for archives illuminating the development of the urban and rural landscapes of the East of England. The archives represented include maps, photographs and sale catalogues; the archives of architects, builders and estate agents, of local authorities and great estates; transport archives and the records of enclosure and drainage. This project is unique in including a private landed estate archive, Holkham Hall, and it serves as a model for providing virtual access to a private archive. The strategy aims to continue to reach out warmly to private owners of archives and encourage any pro-active moves for their inclusion in Regional activities.
