Historically, the demand for peanuts produced in the Virginia/Carolina region has been greater than the V/C quota established. During the past 10 years, the average buy back in the V/C area has been 15,800 tons per year. The availability of these peanuts has given stability to the market for the Virginia-type peanuts. It has protected the consumer from price fluctuation. These buy back pounds have not displaced quota; however, in years where losses have occurred in other areas, the V/C co-op has sent our profits to cover their losses. |
