screening fabric(s) Explanation: Try googling "screening fabric" in combination with "greenhouse". http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/ja/wo.jsp?WO=2009106450&IA=EP20090... In greenhouses screening installations are used, which control the climate and decrease the energy consumption. Such screening installations are designed to compact the screening fabrics, when their function is unwanted and to unfold the screening fabrics, when a positive effect on energy consumption is desired. http://www.onhort.com/Structure-Basics-Part-II-Using-Insect-... If the total volume of air exchange is well above 17 cubic feet per square foot, the selection of screening fabric may be limited and transpiration and evaporation will be excessive. http://www.hgtv.com/decorating/greenhouse-tips/index.html Though glass is the most expensive, it lasts the longest. Glass also allows more light transmission than any other material. A screening fabric can always be added if plants receive too much light. |

shade curtains Explanation: another option (also greenhouse shade curtains) it conveys the idea of opening and closing Over the past decade, retractable shade curtains have become a regular feature of new greenhouse construction. The obvious benefit is that retractable curtains provide higher light levels during times of low light intensity (e.g., mornings, late afternoons and cloudy days). Retractable curtains also make an effective thermal blanket when used at night during cold weather Computer systems vary, but there are several different curtain management techniques that can usually be employed. The following options are based on the time of day, outdoor light intensities and greenhouse temperatures: http://www.onhort.com/Managing-Retractable-Shade-Curtains-ar... NON TECHNICAL SUMMARY: Light is frequently a factor limiting crop production in commercial greenhouses. Recently developed technologies allow growers to manipulate light with retractable shade curtains. However, strategies for managing retractable shade curtains inside commercial greenhouse do not exist. This project will focus on identifying strategies for optimizing the delivery of light to crops grown in commercial greenhouses http://www.reeis.usda.gov/web/crisprojectpages/186078.html |

shade screen(s) Explanation: From work experience in the past: these are the screens fitted inside (the ceilings of) greenhouses to keep direct sunlight out. In the past they used to be operated manually, but nowadays there are sophisticated computer programs that can operate these screens for you (closed, half closed, partly closed, open, etc.). Search on 'greenhouse' and 'shade screen' for instance. |
