Is a Technikum a storage area for technical materials then? Or am I barking up the proverbial?

thus by extension training grounds / area. That's what the Oxford/Duden says, so does Collins, and I have heard this used here in the TU. So I guess it may be be a training laboratory.

disagree  Edith Kelly: Sorry, never mind the Oxford, if you look at the Technikum der Versuchs-und Lehranstalt für Brauen in Berlin, that's just part of a college and certainly no University. So also disagree with Julie.
