Science - Botany / Crop circles
English term or phrase: leeches
Good morning everyone. This is a letter to the editor of a paranormal science journal on the subject of crop circles. CONTEXT:

"Plants eligible for our study included crops such as barley, rye or maize, as well as co-habitant plants such as leeches and non-crop cereals."

As far as I know, a leech is an animal, not a plant. TIA.

Spanish translation:orquídeas del género Stelis
Explanation:
I ran a Google search just in case, but all occurrences of "leech plant" seem to be fantasy RPGs and things like those. I think the author meant to say "leaches" (orchids of the genus Stelis)... Sometimes, the pen follows the ear, or rather the keyboard follows the ear!

BTW, Stelis should be in italics.

The leech plant strikes like a cobra, and fastens two hollow thorns into its victim.

líquenes

Explanation:
May be there is a typo and they meant "lichens" instead of leeches.

Lichens are composite organisms consisting of a symbiotic organism composed of a fungus (the mycobiont) with a photosynthetic partner.

plantas parásitas

Explanation:
