In a track with slow and narrow turns, it's better to set the bike's gears for acceleration than for speed. If you think you need more acceleration, decrease the final gear ratio, but be careful because you will decrease your maximum speed too. Using a very high ratio means that you can reach high speeds without stressing the engine.
The bike should be quick and responsive with short gears but this will cause trouble at the rear, and the bike will tend to weave and wheelie when you exit turns.

Comme vieux motard, je crois que cela dépend du contexte.

Dans un contexte moins technique, par exemple en parlant de prendre un virage, je dirais réduire à une vitesse plus courte.

Dans un contexte d’atelier de mécanique en parlant d'ajuster une boîte de vitesses, au contraire, je parlerais de rapports plus courts.
