En inglés a menudo dicen "spine" or "backbone" cuando se refieren a moléculas, pero en español no acabo de encontrar una traducción satisfactoria. "Columna vertebral" me parece demasiado burdo y literal, además nadie se imagina una molécula de ADN con una columna ósea. "Núcleo" tampoco me convence porque da pie a confusión con otros conceptos químicos como el núcleo celular, el núcleo atómico...
