I ended up calling him "Senior Physician-in-Charge" (for better or for worse), as seen on some websites.

I am not very sure regarding my choice. I chose it on the basis
that \"it sounds right\" and \"makes sense\". I realize this is not
the best way to come up with a translation. That\'s the reason
for my assigning of a low confidence level to my answer, even

Explanation:
the leitender Oberarzt manages the "Station" in a hospital, for example the Chirurgie or Orthopädie, although the head is the Primar, but he may also be a professor, or have other duties, and not be able to take care of the daily management of the station. The head of an entire hospital is something comepletely different.
