English term or phrase: lateral apartment
What would be the best translation for "Lateral apartment"? It seems to be the latest trend in Architectural design and there are loads of these in trendy areas of London. However, I can't come up with a name for it in French. "Apartement latéral" just doesn't sound right.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you

et même peut-être, suivant les cas, "grand appartement de plain-pied", "appartement de plain-pied" de grand standing", etc.

The light, bright apartment is tucked away on the fourth floor of a purpose-built Victorian mansion block in south-west London. And its lateral layout makes life with her French husband, Jean, and children, Chiara, five, and Luca, four, much simpler than in their previous home. "It was a tall, narrow townhouse spread over four floors and we were forever running up and down stairs," she says. "Living in a lateral flat makes it easier and we use all the rooms much more than before."

Wealthy set trend for lateral living in new 'super flats'

Forget traditional houses and split-level apartments, the latest trend in high-end homes is for lateral living.

Flats with as much space as a substantial house but which are on just one level - apparently multi-millionaires don't do stairs - are all the rage on the London property market, say experts.

Some of the "super-flats" are purpose-built, while others have been created by knocking two or three properties into one.
