English term or phrase: hindered release
What would be its translations in the following context? Something to do with "efecto estérico" or "impedimento estérico"?

"The highly water soluble cationic drug, diltiazem HCl, was shown to bind to the polyanionic surfaces of the material to achive a slight sustained release effect on dissolution testing due to reversible chemisorption y/o hindered release from the drug loaded lumen".

Thanks in advance

agree  Neil Ashby: impedida/dificultada - in my mind "retardada" specifically applies to the rate at which it is released. Of course it will be 'retardada' if it is hindered but the source states 'hindered' and not "slow release"... ;@) saludos

-> Tampoco he visto nunca los términos dificultada/impedida.

Explanation:
For me, "liberación retardada" means too many other things. And impedida/dificultada don't seem to be much used.
