Just spoken with the author and this is what he has said regarding the title:

"É exatamente isso ai!! Tentei usar a palavra nesse duplo sentido mesmo! Ao dar um Startup num negocio, vc também o faz na vida!"

So he uses the word "Startup" with two meanings.

As I see it, the author is using startup in a rather different way than its popular use in English (rapid growth, early investors, etc - see 'startup' in wikipedia). From the blurb, the book is basically about starting a 'small business' or 'micro business.' And there are many hints that the real subject matter is entry into the happy world of 'social entrepreneurship' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_entrepreneurship. The cover also puts 'UP' in a font that's 10 times bigger than 'start' - perhaps conveying some kind of ascension on the part of the entrepreneur and/or his/her customers. Again, there are millions of books on starting a small business and so I would take a look at similar books published in English to get an idea for what's possible / what's already been used.

I've been given the first two chapters as a paid trial. Without a doubt the context is all about creating a startup business but perhaps with a little more to it.

Here is a little excerpt from the introduction:

"Neste livro...trago o passo a passo para você criar a sua própria startup. Não qualquer uma, mas um negócio que faça a diferença e agregue na vida das pessoas. Dê um startup num negócio que faça bem para os outros e você terá clientes fiéis para sempre"

Thanks a lot for all your input guys. I thought this would get a lot of different answers. I am going to have to think quite deeply about it. At the moment I am thinking that a "startup (business)" must be reflected and appear in the title.
