Pas beaucoup plus de contexte, il s’agit d’un policier qui travaille sur une affaire, j’en sais pas plus…
J’ai du mal à interpréter cette phrase.

It's a bit like that: one often uses it about a story, for example, and it sort of conveys the notion of 'to unfold', 'to turn out' etc.

With a weaker sense, 'se passer' might convey a similar meaning — but I don't think that would really work well here with 'truth'

In some senses of 'to unfold', se 'dévoiler' or 'se révéler' might be appropriate — I only mention that, because maybe one of those would work better with 'truth'?
